Is The Next “Thing” Already Happening?

I'm not asking about the next miracle drug, or fitness breakthrough, nor am I asking about the next pop star or goofy “reality show” no, I'm asking if the next communication model is already huge but nearly untapped.
I say the answer is yes indeed! Google, Apple, & Facebook have all taken massive action toward the small screen. It's not really news, but there is a perspective that is going a bit unnoticed and is about to unleash and avalanche. In a nutshell, obiviously Apple has led the way in the small screen revolution and immediately behind (though slightly ahead in market share) is Google's Android. Now Google has acquired Motorola's mobile phone machine so they can fully enter the hardware game. Facebook has made everyhting so easy and clean on the samll screen that the fastest way to port your brand over to mobile is to use a free facebook page for business and organizations and all branding activity. We won't leave out twitter and foursquare since they are truly made for mobile out of the gate.

Again no real news here, everything is going mobile, tablet, iPhone, Android, SmartPhone etc..
Let's back up a bit, while the world is not populated with Luddites, there are many who don't use all the snazzy features of their snazzy phones and small screen gizmos. No big deal they get the stuff done that needs to be done. However there is a simple technology that has been in use for a long time, a really long time if we use our historical imaginations, a type of communication that in it's simplicity trumps all the fancy amazing techno miracle star trek stuff, yet seamlessly integrates with said super hight tech smartphone magic.

First there were yodels in the alps, smoke signals in the Americas, drums across Africa, and didgeridoos down under. Then along came the messenger, on foot or horseback, then the telegraph, and the messenger plus the telegraph brought the telegram. Of course we can't forget the amazing carrier pigeon! All of these methods from ancient times were to communicate a short important message in as little time as technology would allow. Pagers were the rage in the '80's but as noted at the top of this article our handheld gizmos have more computing power than the Apollo Modules did. So the short instant important message is still King! These days we have 160 characters in a a Short Message we simply call a Text Message.

The best thing about text is that it crosses all demographics and people look at their text messges. Mostly because they note it's a quick read. Also the device alerts the user by default so everyone knows when they have some new message to look at. Of course replying is simple and quick.
This is not a fad, it is apparently human nature to communicate with short notes. The Next Thing is already happening and anybody can capitalize on it today! if you want to reach your market then we have a product for you, if you want ot build a business upon this Mobile Media Thing then we can help you do that starting today.
Text: iLike to: 90210 and check out the info links and reply keywords, then watch these three short videos http://zti.me/W3 then call me. if you follow the other instructions you will most certainly acquire my personal cell number.
Welcome to The Next Thing!

“Renting Space In Social Media Places”

Web Log - weblog = Blog!
A journal, a diary, editorial opinion, rants, raves, lunatic fringe conspiracy theory, political perspectives, family forums, personal publishing, information regurgitation, original content etc..
Whatever you call it the “blogosphere” is certainly a remarkable advent of the InterWeb!
I've read about and debated the idea of blogging v. social media. For purposes of this opinoi piece I'll say Social Media is facebook, twitter & YouTube. I know there are more SM conduits like Stumble Upon and Digg, however fb, tweets, & YT Video are currently the King, Queen & Crown Jewels of Social Media.
So to blog or not to blog? That is not the question, the question is do you  have any ability or talent to write, research, inspire, inform, edify, or perhaps amuse any number of possible readers? Wheter you have 75 loyal followers or 750,000 if you can frame your thoughts in a pleasing package, then by all  means blog away!!!

I think it is not a matter of Blog v. Social Media or facebook “fan page” v. website, it is a matter of thinking big and functioning small. We magicians often use the phrase: Pack Small & Play Big to refer to the idea that our show does not take a great deal of space or time to set up. but will have  terrific entertainment impact on a large audience.
As a performer I will go out and entertain at a restaurant tonight from 7:30 -9:30 PM in a mostly family style environment. A place in which I've been doing this on Friday nights for over 22 years. Then from 10 - Midnight I'll take the show down the street and entertain at a nightclub/pool hall/tavern. I'll do some of the same stuff but with a slightly different feeling or subtly different demeanor.

Why? Because my audiences perceive themselves in a different light so I will cater to that perception and give them good stuff in a different setting. This translates to the seemingly erroneous debate about whether one should use facebook simply because everyone else is using it. Well folks, I'll drive on the paved road also, since it is the easiest and fastest way to my destination.
So again I say if you have something to say and you can express it reasonably well, then JUST DO IT!

As for whether Social Media is more important than blogging, I say neither is more important, but if I were to suggest one for a business or organizational outlet I would lean toward social media. The question that then arises is: isn't my blog part of my social media? Technically your blog is your blog, because a fork is a fork not a spoon. However if you integrate it and cross pollinate your audience then all of your personal content is part of your Social Media!

The Skinny On SMS

Some interesting data;
(CNN) -- Among U.S. adults who go online, 13% use Twitter -- and more than half (54%) of these people access the popular social media service with their mobile phone, according to new research from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.  - source CNN Tech
This is interesting as the 13% is based upon adults who go online, nearly everyone has a cell phone and according to this most of those cell phone users aren't paying much attention to Twitter.

The report also revealed some interesting details about the demographics of Twitter users. For instance, 25% of adult African-Americans who use the Internet are on Twitter, as are 19% of Hispanic Americans, compared with only 9% of whites.
Where you live also may affect whether you're on Twitter: About 15% of both urban and suburban U.S. adult Internet users are on Twitter, vs. only 7% of rural dwellers. - source CNN Tech

Don't get me wrong, I thing Twitter is a brilliant and useful idea, however it has obvious limitations especially when compared to SMS and facebook. My opinion is that there can be a terrific synergy in reaching your market with your message by including a simple recipe of Mobile Media linked with facebook & Twitter. It is definitely a good idea to bring some varied value to each outlet in a way that makes sense. It may make great sense for some business and information models to specialize in their media outlets and differentiate and cross pollinate with purpose

For instance Dell Outlet has a great twitter where you may find deals that are not announced elsewhere. Southwest Airlines uses facebook to promote give-aways, garner up to date praise from customers, and share various tidbits about the company and travel ideas. There are both very appropriate uses for these media.

Since nearly 100% of Text Messages are opened and 84% are viewed within 4 minutes, and since nearly everyone age 13 and up carries a cell phone with SMS messaging and as the CNN article notes:
Texting is the most popular activity across nearly all mobile demographics & on all types of mobile phones.”
It simply makes good sense that the hub from which all your media flows from and is linked by should be where people are likely to look. In other words, Go Where The Eyes Are!

If you receive a marketing text message that does not include an opt out then file one of these http://www.fcc.gov/guides/spam-unwanted-text-messages-and-e-mail.
Many small businesses understand the power of text messaging to stay in touch with their clients, customers, and prospects, however by simply broadcasting from their personal account they are at risk of really losing people and not complying with the FCC codes.

This is a perfect example of why using iZigg 90210 is such a powerful asset. Not to mention the power and flexibility the platform provides to manage information and streamline your messaging across your market demographics. Of course the Opt out message is a default. The irony is this; the more Opt-Outs your have. the better you are doing, because this is an indication of a higher volume of Opt-Ins!

The final truth about implementing these cutting edge instant forms of delivering your message to the marketplace is this unchangeable fact; One will always have to build their list in the traditional way, face to face, press the flesh, radio, print, TV, fliers, salespeople etc.. The beauty of SMS Mobile Media is that one may use it for an authentic ad tracker and the larger your list of SMS Opt-Ins grows the amount spent of the aforementioned media will be reduced, reassigned or more effectively targeted. What I mean by reassigned is that if you own five sandwich shops and spend $25k annually on print and media promo, you may get a better result by spending 15K on print and media and 10$ on product giveaways. This makes for a happier more engaged growing customer base.

90210 Text Marketing Is Perfect For The Restaurant Business!

It’s well known that in the restaurant business, increasing customer loyalty is probably the single most important marketing goal.   That’s because those repeat customers typically account for a large portion of your revenue, they already like your product, and they are your best “word of mouth” advertisers.  But cultivating those relationships and creating successful loyalty programs has never been easy.

Try This Generic Example For Restaurants Right NOW!
There is no better faster more effective way to connect your market to Social Media like facebook, Twitter, & YouTube, than iZigg 90210 Mobile Media!

Well, until now of course! Restaurant Owners and Corporations take note: Mobile marketing leader iZigg has launched a new mobile promotion platform designed to take the local restaurant industry by storm!
Traditional restaurant marketing tactics usually include direct mail, newspaper and print ads, email, birthday programs, collecting business cards, special events, and the simple signs outside your door. But with the launch of iZigg, restaurants can leverage an innovative and budget-friendly mobile marketing platform to build powerful customer loyalty programs like nothing they’ve seen before.
Take a look at how some local restaurants are already reaping the rewards from iZigg’s mobile marketing platform, compliments of the Michael Rutherford iZigg team:
“Sam, owner of Pickles CafĂ© and Deli in Carlsbad, CA, is not a technology expert.  But within one day of having his iZigg mobile promotion account set up, he was a mobile media expert.  Sam placed promotional placards over his store and asked his patrons to join his mobile VIP club to receive sandwich deals and daily specials.  He’s received hundreds of opt-ins and has begun to build a system of delivering coupons on sandwiches, ½ off lunches and free bags of chips to his customer base almost every day.”
“He’s most excited about being able to set up his iZigg auto-responder to reflect today’s soup and sandwich of the day so that all of his customers can get that deal by just texting in.”
Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant, owned by Justin Jachura in Carlsbad, CA, saw a total of 68 opt-ins in their very first day of using iZigg’s mobile promotion platform.  Jachura took to Facebook and told his fans to opt-in to get specials on rolled tacos for the Fourth of July.”
Restaurants have no limit to what they can do with a mobile marketing service like iZigg.   Here is just a sample:
  • Advertise your daily specials instantly
  • Offer free drink specials
  • Provide mobile coupons for “buy one get one free” (i.e. bring a friend)
  • Send exclusive offers for top customers (or VIP’s)
  • Create contests or a weekly giveaway
  • Have a special code that allow customers to make reservations
  • Receive orders for delivery
Through iZigg’s exclusive text message marketing service, you receive the instantly recognizable and universally sophisticated  ‘90210’ text code, which eliminates the huge problem of trying to get customers to remember your code.
iZigg’s mobile marketing software is also extremely user-friendly, so even the biggest technophobe can become a mobile promotional expert in the space of just a few minutes.  From local coffee shops and cafes to fine dining establishments, local restaurant owners across the country are going to see huge rewards by launching mobile marketing programs through iZigg.

In To The Future With Mobile Media

As entrepreneurs we are all familiar with the basics, it is all about the numbers. How many leads does it take to get a customer? This of course is a broad statement because depending on the industry that varies.

Let’s stick with restaurants for this example. For starters looking at customers as a lead may not be a good analogy, maybe it is better to say that your customers are the lifeblood of your business, without them you are dead.
What are you currently doing to attract customers into your restaurant and what are you doing to bring them back?

First of all your food needs to be good, your restaurant needs to be clean and your staff needs to be pleasant. We all know how aggressive the competition is out there so having an advantage always helps.

Being a franchise owner of an established brand is one way to have an advantage or being in a community for a long time can help individual establishments. But even with that your customer has so many choices available how do you stand out in the crowd?
What if there was a way to discover which customers liked and trusted you the most out of all the other restaurants around and there was a way to communicate with them in the most intimate and efficient ways ever. What if you had a way that would assure you that they would keep coming back over and over and over and it was so affordable that it seemed too good to be true.
As the saying goes. “If it sounds too good to be true it usually is”
I'm certain after explaining my meaning, you will agree that it is not too good to be true because when you apply the saying “You get out of something what you put into it” then things come together.
I am obviously talking about adding mobile sms text message marketing into your promotions campaign.
When a customer subscribes into your VIP membership club they are literally telling you I like your food and I trust you with my mobile number.

Obviously you will be offering a very special discount or something free as a reward for opting in. As far as keeping them trusting you and coming back over and over and over depends on the effort you put into this special database of customers and not becoming intrusive!
You will want to make sure that when you send out a special offer to your VIP members that you are truly sending them something special, it is also something not available through any other offers you have. You also want to make sure you do not send out too many offers because it would just become ordinary and nothing special about it at all.
The bonus side to this is the fact that it is not really about the quantity of your members but the quality and loyalty of your members.
You also have to make sure you heavily promote your VIP text club, train your staff and make it a focus point to build your database. If you just stick up a sign and expect customers to get it and understand what you are offering you will not be laying the foundation properly.
So let’s wrap this up with some forward thinking!
You have a very generous offering for your customers if they opt in to your VIP text club. You may break even or give up a little but you gained a member, this customer also understands that they will on occasion get exclusive offers in the future by being a member. You build up a membership base of 100 customers and you decide to do a monthly special and send out a text to all your members and get a 30% response rate.
30% response rate absolutely!
So you have 30 customers take you up on your offer and do not forget that in your message you can suggest they bring a friend!
Either the light bulb just went off or it didn’t
2 years pass and you have 500 members, how valuable is this database worth to your restaurant!
Apply this concept to your business, restaurants are just an example!

We've Gone Back To The Future

Let's be honest what is the most common and most used “Social Media”? Is it twitter? No, while twitter has some great power for sharing thoughts, ideas, and information and should not be overlooked as a social media outlet, it is not the most frequently used. Though it is a powerful enhancer for any brand.

Is it YouTube? No, while YouTube is simply revolutionary, informative, and fun it is not how people “Get Social” with each other. It is however the greatest viral tool online. Creating a video that goes viral is an unpredictable mixture of talent and luck. So it is very good to have a YouTube presence. The trick is keeping your content inline with your purpose. You need not have 100,000 views for your channel to be an effective way to reach out, inform, and perhaps make your audience smile and share what you have posted.

Is it Facebook? Surprisingly the answer is No to that also. Don't get me wrong, facebook is the hottest real estate online, it is a lot of fun, and they have a fairly nice set up for creating business pages to enhance your brand, connect with your customer base and indeed expand that customer base. Again it is all how you use it. While this isn't brain surgery it is good to have some kind of plan, be willing to experiment, and mostly keep a regular flow of info, posts, pictures, videos, articles and other content moving on to your facebook page. While facebook has lot's of eyeball on it, it isn't designed to stop people wherever they are and have them see a message. One has to go check on facebook and there are plenty of distractions already there.

Stop for a moment and consider the telegram, yes the telegram. Two telegram operators using Morse code, one sending the other receiving and so on. One would have to go to the telegram office or perhaps the short message was delivered to your door. Let me say that again, the Short Message Was Delivered To Your Door!
Folks we have gone back in time with a new edge, a 21st Century Twist, That message is now delivered directly to you and you can reply instantly and even pass it along to your people. SMS or Short Message Service or as we commonly call it: text messaging is here to stay and meets an intrinsic human desire to see and read the words, to be able to review them or share them with another. Most important texting is how millions and millions of people communicate every second of every day. parents and kids, professors and students, friends, colleagues, business associates, co-workers, almost everyone has sent and received a text message or they will before your done reading this article.

It's versatile indeed, if one has a smartphone then images, phone numbers, email addresses, and Internet links are instantly “clickable” if the recipient has an ordinary phone then the content of the message is still viewable and usable! As made popular by shows like American Idol and America's Got Talent people are now familiar with the text shortcode. When you vote on AGT the contestant has a text: Vote to 4608 or 4609 etc..
Imagine your keyword at 90210?

Nearly 300 Million People in the U.S. have Mobile Phones...
By 2013, according to Morgan Stanley, the Mobile Web will replace the Internet as the primary source of online information...
Think about how it was possible just a few years ago to buy a brand new old fashioned picture tube TV at many retailers. Go try it now, the only place you can find a picture tube TV is on craigslist, at a yard sale and maybe at a pawn shop. My point is that in another two years virtually every cell phone on the market will have some internet access. And what we now consider to be a Smartphone or SuperPhone will be a mid level device in less than a year.

Grab a cell phone and text: iLike to: 90210 to find out more right now. if you want to reach me directly text; iCard to: 90210 and you'll have my personal contact info on your phone in moments.

What About Text Message Marketing?

Text messaging marketing is an efficient and direct way for all types of businesses to easily connect with their target consumers at any point in time. Reports indicate that over 80 percent of the total population in the United States use mobile phones, tablets and other types of mobile devices. The mobile industry has grown leaps and bounds and currently worth billions of dollars. Millions of consumers are turning to their mobile gadgets to make purchases, subscriptions and orders online every year.

We have all become accustomed  to mobile phone and text messaging to the extent that we can’t live without them even for a day. Many companies have experienced the effectiveness of this platform for managing their customer service and public relations. This platform has also been effective for email based and other marketing campaigns.

Text messaging marketing involves the sending out of bulk SMS messages to targeted customers to spread the word about a product or service. The only disadvantage of this platform is the fact that there is usually a maximum of 160 characters allowed per message and regulatory bodies require an opt-in form for this type of small business marketing.

One great advantage of text messaging marketing is that it gives your business the ability to generate their desired results from your target audience instantly. This is a huge improvement from traditional advertising methods such as newspaper and TV advertising, where firms have to wait for some buffer period in order to receive the necessary response from consumers. Another small business marketing strategy becoming popular is the dispatching of bulk polls, quizzes, etc. by firms through text messages to their target audience, a method used to garner interactions between such local firms and consumers in their localities. Plus text messaging can be used to track your other advertising, saving you money quickly!

This is the best time to join the text messaging marketing bandwagon as mobile phones continue to become popular among the world’s populace. Experts believe that within a matter of years, everyone across the planet will own some form of mobile phone. It’s therefore imperative that this small business marketing method is embraced by startups and other forms of small and medium sized businesses to broadcast their products and services, to as many customers as possible.

Effective Marketing In The Present Economy!

As the Economy falls deeper and deeper into Debt, every business is looking for a way to market to their customers without spending a ton of Money. Some Small businesses have cut out their marketing and advertising budget to almost nothing over the last few years and are wondering why they are not getting customers into their stores. So if your are in Business, what do you do? Advertise on TV, the Newspaper, or Radio? All of these come with a hefty price tag and leaves the owners thinking, how do I track those ads and know if they are working? The only sure way is if your business or store is busy, then you could justify spending the money. So where do you put your marketing dollars to maximize your campaigns and make them successful?
1) Social Media- Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Linkdin are a low cost way to do business in Today’s market. If you are not on Social media driving in Traffic, it’s still not to late. Having proper marketing techniques can drive a small business into profitability.
Pros- Attracting new and existing customers to your site and give out coupons to your local or online market.
Cons- Takes time to build a following, PPC can be expensive, Most small businesses will need to hire a marketer to run their campaign and then the costs will start to rise.
Grade B+ : Because this country is ran by the local businesses, most owners don’t engage in Social Media or they would get lost starting things out; Example(Creating a Fan page and running a PPC campaign). PPC Campaigns can run as high as $2,000 per month on Facebook.

2) Article Marketing and Blogging– Writing Articles can be a very cheap way to drive people to your web site or online store. More small online businesses are using this technique to drive traffic. Submitting these articles to Authority sites such as enzinearticles.com and Goarticles.com will get your article out in the public view.
Pros- Over time, you will develop a following from others that have not followed you on Social Media. You will develop backlinks to rank you web page higher on google. Plus It’s FREE!
Cons- Time Consuming and may take a long time to develop a following
Grade B- : I gave this a lower rating because the average business may not have the time to write articles and submit them off to authority sites. This also targets only the online market and leaves the local or warm market in the dark.

3) Mobile Media – Text or SMS marketing is new and taking the small businesses by storm. Only 5% of all businesses are using Text Mobile Media and over the next 2 years that number will rise to over 90%. Local businesses can gather and track all their campaigns and send any promotion any time they want. This form advertising is permission based advertising which gives it a leg up over the traditional forms of Advertising- TV, Radio, and Newspaper ads. Tracking is the Key, plus you can instantly advertise and get a response that day. The Statistics are overwhelming, over 94% of all text messages are read and 20-40% act on the promotion.
Pros- It’s very inexpensive. You have the ability to advertise instantly with an instant reaction to your campaign. It’s the in thing to do right now “Text”, look around you, everyone has their eyes glued to their phone texting. You will capture New customers and communicate with old customers. People want deals right now and local businesses can capitalize on this new form of advertising.
Cons- Having the right company! There are so many companies out their offering text mobile marketing, but only a few are offer Tier 1 Sms or text messaging. Not a lot of small businesses know about the power of text mobile marketing. If a business has used the text marketing platform, they probably were involved with someone who didn’t use the marketing aspect properly- so make sure you pick out the right company to use Text Messaging.
Grade A+ : No other form of advertising or marketing can give an instant message to your customers that will be looked at or read at a 90% rate. If your are a small, medium, or Large business- Get Text Messaging involved in your marketing Campaign soon.

Branding yourself through Mobile Media
You can Branding yourself through mobile marketing- most companies offer a short code that is hard to remember. Short codes are 5 or 6 digits where to send your message to. Try and have your customer talk about your business with a short code like 644472? How would like to have a short code that everyone can remember? There is a company that has a Tier 1 Platform, the ability for the businesses to control their List, and the most famous number in the world; iZigg has the Mobile Marketing short code  90210. Now that would be a great number to remember, oh yeah! You and your customers don’t have to, it’s already embedded in our memory. People will start talking and you will start seeing your lists of customers that have texted in and said yes, I want to receive deals and coupons from you. How awesome is that!

Tier 1, 2, and 3 Platforms for Text Mobile Media
Watch out for the companies offering anything but a Tier 1 Platform. Why? Because you may miss your important customers that want your specials today. After Time you could lose hundreds if not thousands of texts to your customers if you don’t have the proper company running your text messaging. Here’s a simple breakdown.

Tier 1- Has a the ability to send and receive Text Messages at a 99.9% rate. Which means that if 10,000 customers opt in over one year, you will be able to send and receive messages to 9,999 of your customers.

Tier 2- Has a the ability to send and receive Text Messages at a 80 to 90% rate. Which means that if 10,000 customers opt in over one year, you will be able to send and receive messages to 8,000 to 9,000 of your customers. You would lose the ability to communicate with over 1,000 to 2,000 customers. That would be Painful to find out.

Tier 3 – Has a the ability to send and receive Text Messages at a 60 to 70% rate. Which means that if 10,000 opt in in one year, you will be able to send and receive messages to 6,000 to 7,000 of your customers. You would lose the ability to communicate with over 3,000 to 4,000 customers. You would definitely want to stay away from these types of services.

If your current plan does not offer a Tier 1 service or they cannot provide that type of information to you, you will never know if your messages are being received by your customers.
